A Reading with Reyna Grande, Author of A Ballad of Love and Glory

Join us for an event featuring acclaimed writer, Reyna Grande, who will discuss and read from her historical novel, A Ballad of Love and Glory, focused on the San Patricios Batallion, a group of Irish soldiers who fought for Mexico during the Mexican-American War. The novel follows the story of John Riley, an Irish immigrant in the US army who becomes the leader of the San Patricios, along with Ximena Salomé, a gifted Mexican healer who dreams of building a family with the man she loves on the coveted land she calls home. Grande’s work is described by the San Francisco Chronicle as “An impeccably researched and deeply felt story about a historical moment most people know little about. ” Join us for this rare opportunity to hear Reyna Grande speak about this fascinating history.

Join us for our 15th annual event honoring the life histories of participants in the Irish Oral History Archive of the San Francisco Bay Area. The Irish Oral History Archive project is focused on capturing the experience and contributions of men and women who emigrated from Ireland and settled in the San Francisco Bay Area, and their Irish-American contemporaries, in their own words.
