”In the halls of Irish music, one musician is unanimously recognized as the best at his instrument. The best who ever was. Jimmy Keane on piano accordion has become what it means to be the best in any art form. It is not enough to say he is a master musician. When it comes to the piano accordion, he is the maestro. The best. Period. No argument. My God, this man is a gift!” — Bill Margeson, Jan. 2011, Irish-American Magazine.
The 12th annual Irish-American Crossroads Festival opened with five-time, All-Ireland champion accordion virtuoso, Jimmy Keane. Keane, hailed as “one of the true giants of Irish traditional music of the past fifty years”(emusic) and the “savior of the piano accordion “(Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin), delighted audiences with his vibrant and nuanced sound.
Jimmy’s accomplishments are far reaching. In addition to being a five-time All-Ireland champion, Jimmy has always been an avid collector and arranger of old tunes and is becoming increasingly known for his original compositions, many of which have become part of the mainstream of traditional Irish music around the world.
Many regard Keane as the premier exponent of traditional Irish music on the piano accordion. Singer-songwriter, Christy Moore, the voice of Ireland, described Jimmy’s playing as “wild and beautiful”.
